HEAR THEIR VOICES is a community event aimed at ending human sex trafficking. This collaborative effort represents a partnership among the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Shawnee Mission Health, and Veronica’s Voice.

Weekend events will include a silent auction, choral and small group musical performances, and informative presentations at the Jack Reardon Convention Center at 7:30 pm on Saturday, Sept. 9. Featured speakers will be Renee Battle-Brooks, a lawyer dealing directly with human trafficking, and Kristy D. Childs, founder of Veronica’s Voice, a local organization providing legal assistance, safe housing and life skills training for survivors of prostitution.

A Community Expo will be held at the G. Alexandra Bryant Youth Center on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 2-5 pm. Geared for family members of all ages, interactive learning stations will focus on awareness and prevention of sex trafficking through sharing information, images and conversations with Kansas City police officers and representatives from Veronica’s Voice and Sunflower House. Face painting, a bounce house and original children’s music with the Mighty Magic Pants will keep the afternoon lively for young children.

To communicate awareness of human sex trafficking and bring healing love and wholeness to people who have been in “the life.”
